This book is a memoir of the author and her experiences of shattering the mindset of distress. I always say that the mindset shift is everything. What you believe in, you become that. Thoughts become things! To talk about the past needs courage and Shandra has got fire in her soul to talk dauntlessly about the time when she had hit rock bottom.
She talks about her childhood and how much her Father advocated education, where her Mother wanted to condition her into a woman who can run home. Not every woman wants to get married and bring up kids, do they? It is her body and her choice.
With great strength, Shandra opens up about her relationships which didn't serve her peace of mind. She talks about her bisexuality and how badly she was treated in a tainted relationship with a guy who was obsessed with his possessions.
I have a firm conviction that only "I" can save myself, no one can/will save me every time. We need to know how to have self-esteem and protect our prestige. If you want to do something for yourself then learn to take your stand and do what you evangelize.
Throughout this book, Shandra has been transparent with her readers. She takes you to the years when she had no identity, no enthusiasm and gradually she brings you to the new "Shandra" who is optimistic and a boss lady as I like to call it.
The book got my attention right from the first page and I finished reading it in one go. Written in a straightforward and powerful language, this book will surely encourage you towards life.
I always appreciate people who are open about their past, not because they are still stuck there but they have transformed into a better person and they want others to believe that "This too shall pass, have faith in yourself". Likewise, Shandra's journey gave me goosebumps while reading it. She is a strong lady with a growth mindset.
I would recommend this book to everyone. Read it and see that " YOU" can still endure even when you hit rock bottom.
