In 2006, I went for a walk with @realtuckermax in New York City. He bought me this book and put me on a path to becoming a writer. You never know what moments or people will end up changing your life.

Such a good scene. I think about it a lot—I was going to use it in Conspiracy because it goes to the core of a certain strand of internet writer. It also captures the essence of a certain well-known politician and reality star.

Seneca enabled Nero and came to regret it. History has repeated the same thing many times since and will again I think. Certainly I have experienced this myself. Also 2021 calendar now on the @dailystoic store.

We have a cow that looks like an Oreo. She doesn't have a name, she’s just called "The cow that looks like an Oreo."

When I wrote my first book about Stoicism, my publisher didn't know what to think. They told me later they hoped I'd get it out of my system and go back to marketing books. Here we are six books later... no plans to stop. Also if you want a signed/personalized copy, I have some at store.dailystoic.com

One of the great men in human history. Frederick Douglass said this 137 years ago today, following the decision by the Supreme Court to roll back the civil rights advances for African Americans won during Reconstruction.

7 months in a house with two little kids. It’s been rough but also wonderful. A morning practice with Stoicism (@dailystoic) has been a lifesaver.

I’m actually not a fast reader. I just do it a lot. Here’s how I approach books.

“Dust thou art, to dust returnest”...even your grave eventually. Really cool old Acadian cemetery in Convent, LA. Earliest birthdate I found was 1750.

Not enough to just make good stuff… you have to get people to hear about it. These are my favorite marketing books.

Four years ago, I wrote a version of this letter. It's sad but necessary to say it again, with sadly even more evidence. If you think that a Stoic "shouldn't get involved in politics," you're missing the fact that like half of them were literal politicians... and what you're actually mad about is that someone disagrees with you. And honestly, this election is beyond politics. Either you mean what you say about being a good person, the importance of telling the truth, of treating others well, of the law and ethics, of doing the right thing even when it's painful, or you don't. Either you're paying lip service to the Stoic virtues of courage and self-discipline and justice and wisdom, or you actually believe them and expect leaders to live up to them, too.

For those asking what happened to the Biden sign...we hung it up on our ranch in Texas, where we own guns, raise cows for meat, prefer low taxes, fly an American flag, and mostly want to be left alone. It's perfectly possible to have "conservative" beliefs and know what the obvious right thing to do in 2020 is.

Totally normal way to walk down the street in small town Texas. @samagerie handled getting yelled at with grace, as usual.
